A person experiences a Hydrocodone overdose when they consume more of the drug than their body can safely handle. There have been cases of people suffering a Hydrocodone overdose and dying as a result. Hydrocodone is found in multiple prescription drugs including Lortab, Lorcet, and Vicodin. If you suspect a Hydrocodone overdose, seek emergency treatment immediately. Common symptoms of a Hydrocodone overdose include:

- cold clammy skin
- coma
- confusion
- dizziness
- drowsiness
- extreme sleepiness
- heavy perspiration
- limp muscles
- loss of consciousness
- low blood pressure
- nausea & vomiting
- pinpoint pupils
- seizures
- shallow breathing
- slow and labored breathing
- slowed heartbeat
- spasms of the stomach and/or intestinal tract
- sweating
- tiredness
- weakness
Why is this drug abused? Hydrocodone is abused for its opiate-like effects. Three dosage forms are typically found (5, 7.5, and 10 mg) and the “high” the user feels can last up to 5 hours. The growing awareness and concern about AIDS and blood-borne pathogens easily transmitted by syringe needle use, has made taking the drug orally vs. injection attractive to the typical opiate abuser. The Schedule III status of Hydrocodone-containing products has made them available to widespread diversion by "bogus call-in prescriptions" and thefts.
