What is Dilaudid? Dilaudid is an analgesic narcotic. The addiction potential of this medication is similar to morphine (highly addictive!). People have become dependent on Dilaudid within the first few days of taking this drug. Dilaudid is approximately eight times more potent on a milligram basis than morphine and is often called "drug store heroin" on the streets.
This medication works by inhibiting the ascending pain pathways in the user’s Central Nervous System. It also increases the pain threshold and alters the user’s pain perception. The effects of Dilaudid are felt within 15 minutes of taking the drug and remain in effect for more than 5 hours. The intensity the user’s Dilaudid side effects varies in intensity from person to person. However, they are typically not life threatening.
